Reading The Present Situation from God's Perspective PDF Print E-mail

As believers, we must be able to read the present situation not from the world’s perspective that makes us feel uncertain, fearful and hopeless, but from God’s perspective that gives us hope. God is the God who has a plan and purpose. He does not do anything spontaneously without planning and preparation. He always carefully and precisely makes His plan, prepares and provides everything necessary to make it pass.

The source for us to know God’s perspective is from His words that are written in the Bible. But to get the revelation from the Bible we need the help of His Holy Spirit. Why must the Holy Spirit? Because He is the One who searches and knows the secret of God’s heart and reveals it to us (1 Cor. 2:10).

Knowing God’s heart (1 Cor. 2:11) or having the mind of Christ (1 Cor. 2:16) is the only way to have the right perspective in viewing the situation. This is important because it will avoid us to worry unnecessarily or make a wrong action.

When we see the present situation from God’s perspective we must ask: what is the actual situation, what is God’s plan and purpose behind this situation and what God wants us to do to take part in making his plan and purpose to be done?

One of the most informative verse in the Bible that can give clear answer for the above questions is in Isaiah 60:1-7; the prophecies of the prophet Isaiah regarding the world’s situation at the end time.

Isaiah 60:2 describe the present situation, as “darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples.” We can see this clearly nowadays in front of our eyes, both regional and worldwide: terrorism, social conflicts, unpredictable economic situation, wars and threatens of nuclear war. But these situations are just one side of life in the world. The situation of the other side of life is so different: “But the light of God rises upon you and His glory will be manifested upon you.”

Like the opposite side of the round globe always have different situation: if one side is in the dark of the night, the other side is in the noon daylight. When the darkness falls upon the world outside Christ, the light rises for the people who are in Christ.

In the Bible we can read the similar situation that was happened in the ancient history of Israel when the people of Israel lived in Egypt during Moses’ time. During the plague of darkness that fell upon the entire land of Egypt, at the place where the Israelite lived - that was in Goshen, there was light in their dwellings (Exodus 10:23).

What is God’s plan and purpose in such situation? He is going to show the difference between God’s people and the unbelievers, the righteous and the wicked, those who serve Him and who serve Him not (Malachi 3:18). With such difference then the Lord purpose shall come to pass. Isaiah prophesied this: “And nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn” (Isaiah 60:3).

What is “the light”? The light that rises and shines upon God’s people is “The goodness of God the Father.” God’s goodness is the true light for man that brightens his life. It brings certainty, hope and happiness. Without God’s goodness man lives in darkness: uncertainty, hopeless and miserable.

The light is attractive. It attracts creatures to come. In the same way, God’s goodness can attract people to come. And the believers must reflect the goodness of God through their life, through their conversation, through their attitude, that people who see it will glorify the Father, which is in Heaven. Let the light of God’s goodness that shines through us attract the people to come to Jesus to know the Father, the One True God.

When the goodness of the Father shines brightly upon the believers, the Church will be lifted high above all human beliefs. Micah wrote about this: “But in the last days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of the Lord shall be established in the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and people shall flow unto it. And many nations shall come and say: Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, and to the house of the God of Jacob” (Micah 4:1).

So, our God is the God who has a plan and purpose, even in the most difficult situations. As long as God has a plan and purpose, we shall be saved even when the darkness covers the earth and the nations. The situations will not running wild and destroy God’s plan and purpose, especially upon His beloved children.

God’s plan and purpose are for His people and His Kingdom. And we are to be a part of His plan and in collaboration with God. That’s why we pray: “Thy Kingdom come, and Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven” (Matthew 6:10).

Through this situation God also has a plan to turn the wealth of the nations unto His people: “Then you will look and be radiant, your heart will be throb and swell with joy; the wealth on the seas will brought to you, to you the riches of the nations will come” (Isaiah 60:5). Because the whole riches of the earth is belong to the Lord, as it was written in Haggai 2:8: “The silver is mine and the gold is mine,’ declares the Lord Almighty.” But at present part of God’s riches is in the pocket of the unbelievers and part of it in the pocket of the believers that is His children, and God the Father intent to move His riches from the pocket of the unbelievers unto His beloved children.

But, the question is, whether we are ready to take part in such great plan? This is a great economic breakthrough for the believers. So we must have a certain mental and spiritual condition in order that this breakthrough will not in the contrary devastating our faith and mentality.

The Bible warns this when it said: “Trust not in oppression, and become not vain in robbery: if riches increase, set not your heart upon them” (Psalms 62:10). We have to set our heart properly because “where your treasure is, there will your heart be also” (Mat. 6:21). If believers set their heart still upon their riches, then it would be dangerous for them to receive this breakthrough, because they could easily forsake the Lord. They will be busy with their treasure and have no time for the Lord. They will just give the Lord “a ten percent commission” and another amount as addition and then give up their responsibility to make the Kingdom of God come and God’s will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. They will shift their responsibility for the Great Commission to what they call “ministers.” Their worship is not for seeking the Bless-Giver but only the blessings. Their faith foundation is so vulnerable, getting strong only when their riches increase and abundant. But soon when they lose some of their wealth, they become so worry and work harder to regain it. Now they even have no time at all for the Lord and refrain from the Church. They would sacrifice everything for their treasure, even faith and their own life. To such Christians God will not engage them in His plan of “transferring” the wealth of the nations.

We should know the true purpose of this transfer of wealth: it is to make the Church a blessing for all families of the earth. Thus, it is not for enriching ourselves, but to glorify God and blessing others.

Another great plan He is going to make it pass is the repentance of our “half brothers and sisters” who believe in God but not yet find Christ as their Lord and Savior. The prophet Isaiah prophesied about this in Isaiah 60:7: “All Kedar’s flocks will be gathered to you, the rams of Nebaioth will serve you, they will be accepted as offerings on My altar, and I will adorn My glorious temple.”

Their population in the world is very big. Many of them are sincerely seeking the true God and fear God. In their scriptures there are many information about Christ the Messiah.  But since they get a wrong interpretation about Christ they in turn hate the Christians and persecute the believers.

What they need is the revelation from the Holy Spirit that will open their eyes to see the Truth that will save them and make them free. The Lord Jesus Himself has once told the disciples: “And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd” (John 10:16).

Praise God! there is a promise in the Bible for the end time that Heaven will help all people on earth to convince that Jesus is the Lord and Savior. The prophet Joel prophesied about the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon all men.

“And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions. And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days, will I pour out my spirit” (Joel 2:28-29).

This is a promise of the great outpouring of the Holy Spirit on earth, which will come upon all people including men and women in every generation - old, young and even children, and every social level. The Holy Spirit will convince people about their sins and their need for salvation. The Holy Spirit will lead the people to Christ and reveal to our “half brothers and sisters” the mystery of Christ, which is written in their Holy Book and has been a hidden secret for centuries.

When this thing would happen, what a great joy, because the entire world will believe in Christ unto the utmost part of the earth (Act. 1:8; Mat. 28:18-20). Then, the Kingdom of God will be established on earth and God’s will be done on earth as it is in Heaven (Mat. 6:10).

But to take part in this precious plan of God, we also must prepare our heart to synchronize our mentality to the things that is going to happen. We must remove from our heart: prejudice, hatred and grudge toward others especially our “half-brothers and sisters,” because it will hinder us to become God’s channel of blessing for them. We must pray to the Father to have His love and compassion, and ask the Holy Spirit to give us His wisdom. We need this that we may treat our neighbor with God’s kindness even when they have treated us unkind or even persecuted us. We need Jesus’ heart that forgave those who nailed Him on the cross and mocked Him. When Christians posses Jesus’ heart and follow what Jesus did, then the world will come to repentance because we open the ways for the Spirit of God to convince all people when the outpouring happen.

So, the present situation has two sides: one is dark for the unbeliever, but the other is bright side for those who love the Lord and live for Him. This thing proves the promise of God in Jeremiah 29:11: “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”

But now, what is our part in this God’s plan and purpose? What God wants us to do in collaboration with Him? Isaiah 60:1 describes it. “Arise, shine: for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord risen upon thee.”

This is what God requires of us. We must arise and shine. To shine in this context means to reflect God’s goodness that people may see it and glorify Him. We must display and demonstrate the goodness of the Father, that people might “taste and see” God’s goodness through us.

The Lord Jesus said that we are the light of the world. We reflect His light that the world may see Christ, God’s ultimate goodness, in us and through us.

We, God’s beloved children, are the receiver of God’s goodness. We all have received and enjoyed His goodness. We have experienced God’s goodness. Indeed God wants that we should taste and see that the Lord is good, before we could tell people about His goodness.

God wants us that after receiving and tasting His goodness we in turn display and demonstrate His goodness in our conversation, our attitude and our deeds. Jesus said: “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father, which is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16).

But the problem is that we who have received God’s goodness often regard His goodness as common things and for that we only thank God and praise Him. We never really aware of His goodness in such a way, that it deeply touches our lives and changes us radically for Him. His goodness actually should make us to yield our lives in total surrender and commit ourselves to follow Him and live for Him for the rest of our lives.

Jesus once met with 10 men who had leprosy and begged Him to heal them. And Jesus told them to show themselves to the priest to prove that they had already healed. They believed to what Jesus said and immediately went to meet the priest that will verify their healing. On the way they found themselves had been healed from their leprosy according to their faith upon what Jesus said. But from the ten only one person who was really aware the goodness of God he had just received, so he returned back to Jesus and kneeled down before Jesus. If this story illustrates the reality of Christian’s life today, we must feel pity for only ten percent of Christians who really aware about God’s goodness and come to Him to present themselves as a living sacrifice:

Romans 12:1:  “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.”

Look at the tax collector named Zacchaeus, who just received Jesus at his house. He was so glad to know that Jesus, whom people called Him: Rabbi, would come into his house, because all the religious leaders despised him since he was a tax collector. Zacchaeus was aware that he had just received God’s goodness. This had made him changed his life radically. He decided to share half or his riches for the poor and repay fourfold to anyone whom he had cheated.

We also see Peter who had just experienced a tremendous thing in his “business” as a fisherman. Jesus made a miracle in Peter’s business. Jesus filled Peter’s boat with great multitude of fishes. The catching he made that day could fill two boats altogether with fishes. It had never happened before as long as he worked as a fisherman. Aware of this Peter fell down at Jesus feet realizing that he was a sinner not worthy for God’s goodness. Since then Peter followed Jesus and became a great apostle of Jesus Christ.

All who’s really aware of the goodness of God would make a radical act before God. He would feel unworthy and surrender his life totally to Jesus and follow Him to become His humble servant. His life would be greatly changed. This is the true awareness of the goodness of God.

The one who’s really aware of God’s goodness will be changed. He will shine the goodness of God in his life that people surround him will see and taste God’s goodness through him. This will lead people to know Jesus through the light of the goodness of God that is shone from our lives. And in turn they will know the Father when they believe in Jesus.

Jesus did the same thing when He ministered on earth. He manifested the goodness of the Father through His life. Those who sees Him sees the Father and those who knows Him knows the Father. Now, in the same manner people must see Jesus through our lives and come to know Him, so they will know the Father eventually. That is salvation.

No one has ever seen God or Jesus with his eyes. We know Him and “see” Him through the Bible we read. And Jesus said: Blessed are they that have not seen, yet have believed. But the unbelievers they not only have never seen the Father, they also do not have the Bible, so they have no way to know Jesus and the Father.

The only chance for them to know Jesus and the Father is through the believer who manifests through their act of kindness the goodness of the Father they have received. Jesus said: Let the world see your kindness and glorify the Father who is in Heaven.

When we do this we become the light of the world; the goodness of God is shinning from us. This will attract the world to come to the True Light that is Jesus Christ the Savior.

So, this is our calling. This is the will of the Father that we supposed to do in this present situation. If we obey His command then His Kingdom will soon be established in the world. His Kingdom come, His will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.

Nowadays we see that one man like Mr. Basuki (Ahok), the Governor of Jakarta, a devoted believer, displays God’s goodness through his ministers for the people under his administration. He has become the light for the world by reflecting integrity, sincerity, commitment and dedication for the welfare of Jakarta people. As the result, the light that shines through his life gives a strong impact for Jakarta people, for Indonesia, even for many nations through out the world.

One person can give a very wide and strong impact. This inspires many people. What will happen if there are thousands of Christians impacting their societies, the Kingdom of God will come by and by, and God’s will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.

The future is at our hands. The Father has entrusted us to become part taker of His plan on this beautiful planet. The Lord Jesus has imparted in us His powerful Spirit to continue the work that He has commenced more than two thousands years ago. He wants us to do His work, even the greater work, for the Kingdom of God.

Are not we, believers, saved and born again to become the beloved children of God? God the Father has predestinated us to be conformed to the image of His Son, Jesus Christ. And the Holy Spirit, who was sent by the Father in Jesus name, has made us His holy habitation, that we may reflect Jesus’ wonderful character and to shine God’s goodness unto the world. Let our light shines before the world that the world may see and come to know Christ and the Father through us.

Nama Yang Ajaib
